Understanding Communication Needs (UCN) Training
Created and delivered by Dave Burke (Accredited Trainer, Level 3 & 4), Understanding Communication Needs (UCN)—also known as PBS (Positive Behaviour Support)—is a unique and in-depth 3-day training course designed to transform how we view and respond to behaviour in people with learning disabilities.
At the heart of UCN is a powerful idea: behaviour is a form of communication. Dave explains,
“I wanted to move away from labelling actions as ‘behaviour’. If we take the time to understand the individual, we can better support their needs and ultimately improve their quality of life.”
This course equips support staff with the practical tools and deep insights needed to make a genuine difference in the lives of the people they care for.
UCN is officially approved by:
BILD (British Institute of Learning Disabilities)
STOMP (Stop Over Medicating People)
RRN (Restraint Reduction Network)
Whether you’re a caregiver, support worker, or service provider, UCN offers a refreshing and effective approach to person-centred care—grounded in empathy, understanding, and communication.
